Yachting Answers on Quora

Filed under: Miscelaneous — Richard Jordan @ 12:00 am

Looking for an answer to a yachting question? Recently I have rediscovered Quora, a growing Question and Answer website. Quora is an interesting site because it has managed to draw so-called “high value contributors” who post under there real names. With the San Francisco America’s Cup coming up, Quora has quite a bit of activity in regards to yachts and boats. Also pushing up the content are the contributions of Jimmy Wales of Wikipedia fame who has taken on the topic of Boating as his medium to contribute to and explore on Quora. One his best answers is to the legendary “Are there more boats or pasta?” question.

If you are looking for answers, anyone can sign up and post a question. Or if you are interested in receiving a weekly email with the most popular of that week’s topics, sign up and you’ll get a weekly update (I do). There are many unanswered questions (ex. “How do AC45 boats go faster than the windspeed on the downward leg?”) that as a yachtsman/woman you might be able to contribute in and develop the sum of humanity’s knowledge too – if you are into that type of thing.

"Now that we’ve completed the sale of my boat, I’d like to take a few minutes to thank you and all the folks at Jordan Yacht and Ship Co. for the exceptional “hands on” help and guidance you gave me as I went through my first experience with selling an ocean going vessel. The fact that I live and work more than a thousand miles from the ocean made the job more challenging than a typical brokerage project. In addition to finding a buyer willing to pay a fair price for a boat I really enjoyed owning, you, literally, got your hands dirty seeing to her proper dockage and maintenance. I couldn’t have done it without your help. Further, I’m particularly impressed with your attention to details, documentation of all expenses no matter how minor and your immediate response to my voice and e-mail communications, even after business hours and on weekends. I’ve already recommended you and Jordan Yacht to my boating friends. When I’ve tended to the medical issues that prompted my sale, I’ll be in touch seeking your help in finding a new sail boat!" - RB, S/V Maryah
